Leonardo Alese (TU, advisor J. Wallner): Curved folding along closed curves

Abstract: Since a long time it has been clear that paper surfaces constitute a rich and computationally tractable class of surfaces, of interest for mathematicians, as well as for designers and artists. It is well understood how paper folds in a small neighbourhood of a single curved crease but results of global nature (for instance when combinatorics of the sheet is not trivial or two creases coexist) remain elusive. In this talk we will introduce curved folding and look at two approaches to wrap local constructions along closed space curves.[hide abstract]
